Fairfield police are asking residents to be alert and report suspicious activity after a rash of home and car burglaries have plagued the neighborhood.
Police say they have responded to 31 home burglaries in the past month and 52 car break-ins in the past two months. Sgt. James Perez says 80 percent of the burglaries have happened to cars and homes that were unlocked.
"Any community that is lax in their security checks will become targets of burglars because these individuals are opportunists and they look for the weakest link," Perez says.
Police ask anyone with information to call the department at 203-254-4800.
