Stratford police said a “rusted” gun was found on the property of Nichols Elementary School on Wednesday.
Police said the firearm was covered with dirt and debris and was rusted over from being outside for an “extended period of time.”
They said the weapon found matched the description of a firearm missing from the scene of an incident from 2017.
The Detective Bureau is investigating if the gun is related to the incident, which happened near the school, according to officials.
Officials did not provide further details on the incident.
They said the firearm was “inoperable” and posed no threat to the public.
