Police in Bridgeport say a teenager was arrested for bringing a loaded handgun to Harding High School.
The incident happened on Tuesday. Police say it's not yet clear how the student got the .32-caliber revolver through the school's metal detectors. Superintendent Fran Rabinowitz says she has "reason to believe the gun may have been passed to the student through a side door which had been left open."
According to police, a student tipped off school officials that one of his classmates had brought the weapon onto campus. They say officers then patted down the student and arrested him around 1:45 p.m.
The student's identity has not been released.
Rabinowitz tells News 12 that it's still early in the administrative investigation, but she is doing everything in her power to make sure the suspect is expelled from Harding High School "for having exposed students and faculty to an enormous amount of danger."
Police say the student will be tried as a juvenile.
