Police in New Haven say they've adopted a unique approach to shock drivers into locking their cars.
Published reports say that thanks to an exception in state law, police are able to open the doors and take the objects just like a thief would.
They plan to try and call the owner first, but if they can't reach them, police will take the items and leave a receipt on the seat telling drivers where they can retrieve their missing items.
