Police say a Torrington man left a 15-month-old boy unattended in a bathtub, where he later drowned.
Alex Ciccarelli-Rosa, 27, was babysitting Evan Standish, his girlfriend's son, on June 6, according to investigators.
Police say Ciccarelli-Rosa left out a rum and Coke that he found the toddler drinking.
After that, he put the baby in a tub and came back to find him with his face underwater.
Ciccarelli-Rosa surrendered to police Thursday morning, and authorities say when he showed up, he had been drinking.
His lawyer says he has no prior criminal record.
"It's a horrible situation, and tragic," says William Conti, the lawyer. "You have nothing but sympathy for the family of the child, and the mom, but in the end it was a tragic accident."
The judge agreed to lower Ciccarelli-Rosa's bond from $600,000 to $500,000 so he can return to rehab. He is due back in court in two weeks.
