A suspected drunk driver struck a pedestrian early Saturday morning, leaving the victim with serious injuries, police say.
It happened just after 1 a.m. on Cove Road.
Witnesses say a dark-colored BMW jumped the curb and hit a 22-year-old man on the sidewalk.
News 12 is told that the driver then put the victim into his car and dropped him off on Seaside Avenue.
The officers were able to track down the vehicle, which still had the victim’s cellphone lodged in the hood.
The driver, 50-year-old Carlos Campo, admitted to hitting the pedestrian and failed a field sobriety test.
The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries that are not life-threatening.
