Westport police closed Long Lots Road at North Avenue for much of Thursday after a truck struck a utility pole.
They say the driver of an equipment truck from Greenwich High School was headed to Staples High School for the Thanksgiving football game when he turned onto North Avenue and hit the pole. Officials say the impact split the pole in half, and power lines fell to the ground.
The downed lines posed a safety hazard to pedestrians, bicyclists and even motorists, according to Westport police Sgt. Rich Frazier.
Eversource Power completed repairs and officials reopened the road at around 5 p.m.
