Elementary school students in Westport became sick after ingesting THC-laced candy on a school bus, police say.
The incident happened last week, according to Westport Police Department Lt. Eric Woods.
Westport Public School Superintendent Thomas Scarice
commented on the incident during a Board of Education meeting on Monday.
"Last week, there was a school-related incident in which students became ill after ingesting what appeared to be candy. This is a terrifying sign of the times and a traumatic experience for the students and families involved," Scarice announced.
Scarice said he could not go into detail about the incident due to federal law protecting students.
"I want to emphasize to families that it is especially important for those caring for our youngest students to remind their children not to consume candy, chocolate, or other food from unknown sources," Scarice said.
Fairfield Public School officials also sounded the alarm about the incident and warned parents about the dangers of THC-laced products that look similar to candy.
