A Bridgeport woman says she was frightened for her life when she was allegedly jumped and assaulted by another woman who accused her of not cleaning up after her dog.
The woman, who asked not to be identified, says she had waste removal bags in her hand and was ready to clean up after her dog when she became the victim of an unprovoked attack Tuesday on Summerfield Avenue in Bridgeport.
"I have scratches on my face, my neck, my chest," she said. She also suffered a serious neck injury.
Police say it's not uncommon for emotions to run high when it comes to pet waste removal in the community.
The woman, whose dog Teddy is a 6-year-old Shih tzu mix, said the attacker screamed at her, saying, "Don't let your dog poop on my grass!"
"I showed this lady that I had the poop bag in my pocket, and she just jumped at me," she said.
The victim's friend, Monica, accompanied her Friday when she met with investigators.
"[She] threw her on the ground, grabbed her hair, kicked her in the ribs, kicked her in the neck," Monica said.
The woman says she and her husband always clean up after Teddy because they don't want their neighborhood to be dirty either.
Nyeshia Lopez, the woman's neighbor, says it's one thing to encourage cleanliness and another to cross the line with violence.
"They should be ashamed," Lopez said, "and I'm a little embarrassed to be living on the same street as someone who would assault someone over a dog's mess."
"I don't know what's going on with people in this world, so much hate," Monica said.
Police say the suspect was spotted leaving the scene in a white Toyota Camry.
