As the spring turns into the summer season and kids begin to dive into oceans, lakes and pools, experts have one piece of advice for parents ? be careful.
Experts say it takes 30 seconds for a child to drown, so parents should keep a watchful eye on their sons and daughters.
In 2005, over 3,500 people nationwide died from drowning and more than one-fourth of those were 14 or younger, according to a recent study.
Experts recommend parents have a 4-foot fence surrounding a pool. Parents should also place alarms nearby. Experts also say parents should have a proper lock on a gate, and most importantly, give children swimming lessons.
