Pope Francis remains in critical condition as he receives treatment for double pneumonia and early stages of kidney failure.
The pope is resting after a quiet night. The Vatican says he is battling pneumonia in both lungs, along with early signs of kidney failure.
The 88-year-old went to the hospital on Valentine's Day after a weeklong bout of bronchitis got worse. He's received blood transfusions and tests showed a condition associated with anemia. Doctors say they will keep him hospitalized for at least another week. Meanwhile, the local Catholic community is sending prayers for the pope. John Flynn of Norwalk is a parishioner at Saint John's Church in Darien. At 88, he's the same age as the pontiff.
Flynn says thoughts and prayers are going out to Pope Francis as he struggles to recover.
"I think it's a big deal for everybody, not just Catholics. The fact that he's on the news regularly, every day now, and people are concerned about him, even non-Catholics have been praying for his recovery, because he's a figurehead, and a reminder that there is a God," said Flynn.
