Prosecutors say the arrest warrant against Ricky Garcia, of Milford, includes witnesses who say they saw the 57-year-old beat Christopher Peckham to death.
Garcia was in court Tuesday to face manslaughter charges.
Garcia, Peckham and about 10 other people lived in a house in the 500 block of Anderson Avenue in Milford.
Police responded to the home Sunday night and found Peckham dead outside the house with bruises and cuts all over his body. An autopsy later determined he died from blunt trauma to the upper torso including broken ribs, fractured vertebrae and internal bleeding.
The arrest warrant states Peckham's sister, who also lived at the home, asked Garcia to get her brother out of her room, which is why Garcia allegedly assaulted him.
Housemates described seeing or hearing Garcia kick and punch Peckham over and over – even jumping up and landing on Peckham's stomach.
Police say Garcia and another man then dragged Peckham outside, where witnesses told them he appeared to be alive. A few hours later, when Peckham was unresponsive, Garcia called 911 to get him help.
Garcia is being held on a $250,000 bond.
In court today, the prosecutor said Garcia has a criminal history with previous convictions for assault, operating under the influence and failing to appear in court.
