Officials are warning residents to be careful of the extreme heat during the expected heat wave.

Newtown Public Works Director Fred Hurley says there could be issues with power in the heat as people use their air conditioners.

Hurley says the town’s generator is ready to go just in case, and that it runs the fueling station for all the town’s emergency vehicles.

Hurley also says very hot conditions can soften the asphalt and make changing a tire harder, and advises that everyone drink plenty of water and ‘stay cool.’

Mitch Gross, from Eversource, says that if there are any power issues, they are prepared to respond.
