Rabies warning issued for Milford pet owners
Milford animal control says the first positive rabies test of 2007 has recently come in after a raccoon entered a home basement through a cat door and bit a dog.
They say incidents of rabid animals entering people?s homes have recently increased because rabid raccoons usually come out this time of year. Experts urge pet owners to use caution and to watch for early signs of rabies, including high fever, loss of appetite and subtle changes in behavior. They also advise securing garbage cans with bungee cords to ward off raccoons and other animals.
