An organization dedicated to protecting children from drug and alcohol addiction raised hundreds of thousands of dollars Saturday toward its cause.
Gary Mendell quit his job and set up Shatterproof after his son, Brian, died in 2011 following a battle with addiction.
The organization teamed up with special events company Over the Edge on Saturday in Stamford, hosting a rappelling event. About 90 people participated, scaling down a 23-story building to highlight the challenge of battling addiction.
The event raised more than $300,000.
