Elected officials highlighted a $200,000 grant Monday morning awarded to the town of Redding.
The funding was made possible by the Connecticut Economic and Community Development department’s Brownfield Remediation and Development Program.
Officials say the grant will revitalize and redevelop the former Gilbert and Bennett Wire Mill Brownfield site.
"The location you're standing on, as you know if you live here, has been lying vacant and fallow and underutilized for decades,” said Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz. With the help of this funding, there will be a plan written for the whole area."
Bysiewicz says the plan is to incorporate more businesses into the area...the funding is the first step.
