For the first time in 35 years, the Memorial Day Parade in Redding paid special tribute to a non-veteran today. Veteran volunteer firefighter Marshall Sanford organized and ran the parade for 35 years. But in April, he died of a heart attack while on the job.For Sanford's brother, who heads up the volunteer fire department, the tribute to Sanford after the event was as moving as it was meaningful. He says Sanford's legacy will be one of public service.
