Religious leaders took part in a witness walk Friday in honor of Jesus Christ.
The leaders marched through the borough holding a large cross while re-enacting the last moments of Jesus' life.
In Melrose, the nuns and friars who took part say carrying the cross is hard work but the sacrifice is worth it.
Father Emmanuel Mansford, of St. Joseph's Friary, says the idea is to remember that this is not just a day to shop and work. He says it is a day to remember that Jesus died out of love for us.
Father Mansford says he has been taking part in the walk for 18 years.
