Rep. Jim Himes joined third-graders in Norwalk's Silvermine Dual Language Magnet School Monday morning to make Valentines for local veterans.
Now in its 13th year, the "Valentines for Vets" program invites elementary schools and youth organizations to make Valentine's Day cards for veterans in the Fourth District.
Army veterans, including Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilliing, spoke with the kids about their experience in the service.
Around 60 schools and organizations across District 4 in Connecticut participate annually, providing Himes with hundreds of Valentine's Day cards to deliver.
In previous years, the valentines were taken to a local VA hospital, Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport and other veterans service organizations.
