A scathing state audit released Thursday says many school bus drivers may be convicted criminals.
The report found state criminal history checks are incomplete. It also says police don't always notify the Department of Motor Vehicles of felony arrests.
Additionally, background checks are taking longer.
The audit makes several recommendations, including getting regular updates from national criminal and child abuse registries. It calls on the DMV to do better checks on bus companies, and the state to upgrade its computer systems
