Report: High levels of arsenic, uranium found in private well water
A report by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Connecticut Department of Health found high levels of arsenic and uranium in water from private wells across Connecticut.
The report sampled almost 700 private wells in the state and found that 7 percent tested for high levels of arsenic and uranium.
Some communities in western Connecticut have well water, like Redding, where 95 percent of the homes use wells.
Redding Health officer Doug Hartline says arsenic and uranium are naturally found in rocks, but lately levels in Redding have been higher.
He says it’s important to know what's in your water and whether it’s contaminated.
Hartline says residents should test their water to see if it needs to be treated.
