The National Transportation Safety Board issued its preliminary report Friday on the plane that crashed into Long Island Sound in June.
The crash happened
June 1, about six miles off the coast of Branford.
The report said the pilot heard a popping noise that came from the engine and experienced a loss of thrust shortly after takeoff from Bridgeport Sikorsky Airport.
The plane crashed into the water soon after.
The investigation found there was significant damage inside the engine.
Both the pilot and female passenger from
Easton were not injured.
