Stamford police say they received a report of a suspicious person who approached a student Friday.
Parents in the Stamford School District received an message informing them of the incident, which occurred on Belltown Road near the Newfield Green Shopping Center.
The message said a Dolan Middle School student was approached by a man with a mustache and goatee in a large, white van Friday afternoon.
School officials say the student ran away and told his or her parents what happened.
In the message to parents, officials advised to use the incident as an opportunity to remind kids to report anything suspicious to a trusted adult.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Stamford police.
