Community members in Stamford took steps Saturday to help repair a damaged Sandy Hook memorial statue.
As News 12 reported, police say the statue was vandalized earlier this week at one of the 26 playgrounds built to remember those lives lost just over three years ago.
Resident Kellie Cooke found the toy soldier statue at West Beach, dedicated to Sandy Hook victim Jesse Lewis, with its legs damaged and parts missing.
Cooke says she started a GoFundMe page Saturday to help raise money to replace the statue.
Cooke says she hopes to raise $20,000 to repair the statue.
