State representative Donald Scheer is calling for a safety study of a notorious road in Stamford.
More than 250 accidents have occurred on Long Ridge Road in each of the last two years, three of them fatal. Police say excessive speed is usually the factor. The road has a speed limit of 40 to 45 miles per hour, but residents say drivers treat it like a highway and regularly speed in excess of 55 miles per hour.
Scheer is asking the state Department of Transportation to conduct a study to find ways to make the road safer. He says more traffic lights and increased enforcement could make the 7-mile stretch of road less dangerous for drivers.
