The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection announced Saturday that the salmonella outbreak affecting peanut butter products nationwide is linked to a distributor in West Haven.

King Nut peanut butter, which isn?t sold directly to consumers, is utilized in commercial products, like peanut butter cookies and crackers. Food retailers and shop owners throughout Connecticut removed peanut butter items from their shelves Saturday.

As a precaution, the Kellogg Company has put a hold on their Austin and Keebler peanut butter crackers. Food inspectors have yet to confirm salmonella in any of these products and officials say there have been no confirmed cases of illness from Kellogg products.

The Department of Consumer Protection warns Connecticut residents to be wary of purchasing peanut butter products until officials can complete their food inspection. According to the department, many gas stations, small convenience stores and vending machines still carry the questionable products.
