A Stamford salon owner got quite a surprise Wednesday when a first-time “customer” admitted that he was actually there to donate his kidney.
John Rubino came in for his first “haircut appointment” at Tagliare Salon, but told owner Jessica Rabasco he was there for another purpose.
"I am here for a haircut, but I have to cancel my appointment. I am here for a kidney donation,” he said.
Rabasco, 29, found out in November her kidneys were only working at 6%. She was placed on a transplant list, but was told it could take five to seven years to find a match.
Rubino saw a Facebook post about her kidney search. He went through five months of testing, and found out last week he's a match.
Rabasco’s dance teacher, who lives in Florida, was responsible for putting up the Facebook post and asking for kidney donations.
They hope the the surgery will be completed by the end of the summer.
