Salons and barbershops reopened Monday after the state delayed their May 20 opening date due to some shop owners' concerns about safety during the pandemic.
Hometown Barbershop owner Cheryl Sciarretta says disinfecting has always been part of the business. However, there's just a few extra steps to pay attention to now with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state guidelines.
Sciarretta previously owned two salons in Norwalk, but now she's cutting hair herself in a suite on Hope Street in Stamford, which she hopes will make social distancing even easier.
She says she is booked up, and offering simple-serving haircuts from behind a plastic face shield and fresh surgical mask.
She says she'll miss the social connection that comes along with waiting areas, magazines and some extra time in the chair, but she says the most important thing is getting her business running again, and doing it in a safe way.
Hometown Barbershop is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
Haircuts are currently only being made by appointment.
