The Salvation Army and Stamford Police teamed up to hold a back to school readiness event at the PAL Center Saturday.
Kids were able to pick out school essentials, such as backpacks and books for free.
The event also featured food and activities including bouncy houses and corn hole.
Organizers say the event is part of an effort to get kids excited for the school year.
"To let the parents know that learning is a communal thing, that the community is support them, helping them to get ready and that they're not alone in their educational journey," says Myron Smith.
