Families of some the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting joined officials in Washington, D.C. Thursday to demand stronger gun laws.

The Newtown Action Alliance, as well as other gun violence prevention groups, met with lawmakers. They showed the faces and names of dozens of gun violence victims as they urged Congress to honor the victims by doing something.

The group wants to expand background checks, ban assault weapons and close a loophole that lets guns be sold before a background check is completed.

Monday marks three years since 20 first-graders and six educators were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

The group says 90,000 Americans have lost their lives to firearms since then.
