This week's Scholar Athlete is dedicating her final few weeks of high school to saving the environment.
Abigail Cerny is a senior at Fairfield Ludlowe High School where she plays three sports and has a 4.3 GPA.
The captain of the Falcons track and field team is part of the volunteer organization SASO, which stands for Student Athletes Serving Others.
Cerny also helps raise funds as secretary of the Save the Children Club at the high school.
She's dedicating her last few weeks of high school to eliminating waste at Fairfield beaches.
"Well of course, our community loves to go to the beach and have fun in the summer, but I think it's important to keep our environment clean, keep our beaches clean for the marine life and our environment in general for the future and just keeping it safe for everyone involved," Cerny said.
"You don't want them just to be athletes, you want them to be good representatives of the school and give back," FCIAC Commissioner Dave Schulz said.
Cerny will attend Clemson University in the fall.
