News 12 Connecticut’s Justin DeVellis says this week's scholar athlete is a Milford soccer star whose talents are taking her to division one next year.
Taylor Jenkins has the St. Joseph's High School team just one win away from a third straight state title.
Local communities might be familiar with the history of success at St Joseph’s like the rich history of talented players going to the next level over the years.
Players like Jenna Bike or Jessica Mazo -- who Jenkins sees as mentors. She says she eventually wants to make it to the NWSL.
She’s also an artist on and off the pitch and has committed to University of Connecticut to play on the women’s soccer team.
Jenkins scored a couple of goals at a recent game and says she owes it all to her teammates, family and coaches.
"I practice in New York three days a week, my mom drives me 1 ½ hours there, and 1 ½ hours back. Even my grandparents sometimes drive me in,” says Jenkins. “All of my success has contributed to them and everything they've done for me even since I was a little kid.”
For those that haven’t already, there’s one more chance to see her play this weekend in the state championship in Hartford.
The Cadets will play Notre Dame Fairfield on Saturday or Sunday. The time for that game has yet to be announced.
