Stamford students celebrated Halloween a day early Monday with their annual pumpkin-decorating contest.
Each art class at Scofield Magnet Middle School worked together to put together a creative pumpkin display.
The pumpkins were decorated to look like a variety of fictional characters, including Cookie Monster and Kermit the Frog, as well as food like a cheeseburger and an ice cream cone.
“We've done a number of items to get students to interact together,” says the school’s principal, Scott Clayton. “And with our model, art is an academic class here - so students have art every single day, and you can see within the creativity of some of the pumpkins that we take art very seriously as part of our science and technology program.”
The contest was held as part of the school's advisory program, through which students are connected with an adult they can trust to help them with issues in school.
