Seaside Heights has been named one of the top party beaches in the United States, coming in at No. 5 on a list released by Hotels.com.
Miami Beach claimed the top spot, followed by Waikiki Beach in Hawaii.
“I feel like it’s the place to be In the summer,” said Ron Gaboury, general manager of the Ocean View Restaurant. “We have the boardwalk and the beach. We got a great view here at the Ocean View, so I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t wanna be here.”
Ed Dioguaidi, of Marlton, said he and his girlfriend often take trips to Seaside Heights to enjoy the overall ambiance and local amenities.
“It doesn’t surprise me. I guess it’s a party scene. It has bars and stuff. It’s not a crazy atmosphere. Pretty family oriented,” said Dioguaidi. “It’s pretty good.”
The hotel booking site ranked beaches nationwide based on nightlife and atmosphere. Seaside Heights earned its spot, thanks in part to its lively boardwalk lined with restaurants, bars, arcades, rides and games.
Two future brides from surrounding states who are both getting married this October were in town celebrating their bachelorette parties this weekend.
“I’m looking just to have a great time with my girls and to have an experience like this all together,” said Faith Seniuk, of Pennsylvania.
A curfew was put in place for minors during Memorial Day weekend after crowds became unruly and fights broke out resulting in several arrests.
“Memorial Day weekend is always the beginning of craziness, and they did a good job by curbing it,” said Walter Grenchi. “It was sad that they had to cut down the boardwalk hours for the businesses, but I understand why it’s needed and hopefully it’ll come back in the other way.“
Some residents said they were surprised the Jersey Shore destination landed so high on the list. But as far as the East Coast goes, New Jersey edged out New York's Fire Island by one spot.
