Sen. Richard Blumenthal spoke with News 12’on Sunday to discuss Congressional hearings coming up this week on sexual assault concerns in U.S. Coast Guard which will demand accountability from the branch's leadership.
Blumenthal addressed the fact that the U.S. Coast Guard has not yet taken accountability for reports of widespread sexual assault allegations at the Coast Guard Academy.
"I hope to demand accountability from the Coast Guard and to have really graphic evidence from victims and survivors of sexual assault,” said Blumenthal. “They're cadets who suffered from these heinous actions that should have been prevented and now have to be held accountable."
Blumenthal – who chairs the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations – added the revelations reveal a dwindling trust in leadership within the ranks of Coast Guard members.
