Sen. Richard Blumenthal told News 12 Connecticut that he fractured his femur and is expected to undergo surgery Sunday, following a mishap at the UConn Huskies victory parade in Hartford.
The senator said someone was taking video of him during the procession tripped and fell on top of him, causing the injury.
Blumenthal was alert, and in good spirits, when he spoke with News 12 Connecticut by phone Saturday night.
Blumenthal, 77, is currently serving his third term as U.S. senator. He was also the state’s attorney general.
