An American hero was honored in Stratford Sunday for risking his life defending our freedom.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal recognized 80-year-old Marine Corps veteran Jim Bowman, who was injured while he was deployed during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
His family tells News 12 they've been trying for years to get him a Purple Heart in recognition of his service. Bowman says he volunteered for the Marines and was just proud to serve.
Blumenthal says Bowman deserves a Purple heart and he's proud to add his voice to the chorus of calls for the combat vet to receive one.
