Sen. Richard Blumenthal says he will oppose any request for additional funding for the war in Iran, citing concerns over the nation's growing federal budget deficit.

Blumenthal said the federal government must focus on reducing spending rather than allocating more money to the conflict.

"We need to cut wasteful spending, and I will vote against any supplemental request for additional money going to this war in Iran, which is senseless and needless," Blumenthal said.

The federal budget deficit is projected to approach $2 trillion this year, making it the third-largest annual deficit in U.S. history.
