Sen. Richard Blumenthal is pushing for the Senate to pass the Respect for Marriage Act as quickly as possible.
The measure would require the federal government to recognize the validity of same-sex and interracial marriages.
"We need the Marriage Equality Measure -- Respect for Marriage Act -- and this week my hope is that we will in fact vote on it and pass it, which will mean security for people who have married someone they love who may be of the same sex,” Blumenthal says.
The striking down of Roe v. Wade is one of the many factors that led to the proposal of this bill.
