Sen. Richard Blumenthal says Revolution Wind is now delivering electricity to the New England grid.

The sustainable power plant off the Connecticut coast officially started generating electricity on Friday night.

The federal government has repeatedly tried to stop the project, citing security concerns.

Connecticut officials, however, counter that the project was already fully vetted.

"It will lower electricity prices, grow jobs in the economy and preserve our environment. It is truly a milestone, this beginning of a new electricity era in Connecticut with the start of Revolution Wind generating power just off the coast of Connecticut," Blumenthal said on Saturday.

Officials say the plant is set to power about 350,000 homes and save state residents millions in reduced electricity costs.
