U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal announced Sunday that he will help a Greenwich woman whose 7-year-old daughter was allegedly kidnapped by her ex-husband and taken to Russia.
As previously reported, Katerina Hramovich says her ex-husband, Ruslan Usmanova, was not supposed to leave the area during a court-ordered visit with their daughter Alina last weekend. He then allegedly put the girl on a plane and fled with her to Russia.
Blumenthal says he was moved by the story and will be contacting the State Department, international legal authorities and U.S. law enforcement agencies. He says the nation has a responsibility to protect children.
Local police say they have contacted Interpol in Europe to help return Alina, who is a U.S. citizen, to her mother.
