Sen. Richard Blumenthal underwent surgery at Stamford Hospital after he fractured his leg Saturday at the UConn Huskies victory parade in Hartford.
Blumenthal says the surgery was a success and he is currently "undergoing post-op procedures.”
Blumenthal said he was in the best of spirits when he spoke to News 12 Connecticut by phone before the procedure. He said he was looking forward to making a full recovery in the weeks ahead.
During Saturday's event, someone taking video of Blumenthal tripped and fell on top of the senator from behind. He finished the parade before going to Stamford Hospital.
Elected officials have also spoken out in support of Blumenthal.
“On this Easter morning we want to wish him and his family the best and a quick recovery,” said Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim.
