Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) wants to designate the Long Island Sound a marine sanctuary.
While some say it would take a miracle for Long Island Sound to overcome its environmental challenges, Blumenthal is more optimistic.
"I want to be a steward, that's the reason that I will fight," the senator says.
Blumenthal is hoping to keep the estuary environmentally sound by designating it a National Marine Sanctuary, which would give it special federal protections.
