Sen. Marilyn Moore requested that a recent Bridgeport fatal shooting be investigated by the Chief State's Attorney and not the Bridgeport Police Department.
Moore sent a letter saying the ongoing federal probe into former Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez and others is sufficient grounds for requesting outside help.
She says she's asking the Chief State's Attorney to investigate the slaying of 21-year-old Nyair Nixon, who was fatally shot last Sunday at Keystone Social Club on Barnum Avenue.
Moore says the only way for the victim's family to get a fair review of the incident is through an independent probe.
Moore's letter notes that a member of the Bridgeport City Council is the owner and manager of the club where the shooting happened, writing, "I am also making this request because a Bridgeport elected official is the club owner/manager and I do not believe, based on the recent corruption charges within the Ganim administration, that there will be a non-biased investigation that the family of Nayir deserves."
