An honor was given Wednesday from the U.S. Senate floor for one of the state’s most notable politicians.
Sen. Chris Murphy celebrated the life and legacy of former Connecticut Gov. and Sen. Lowell Wicker.
Murphy called Weicker’s brand of service his “North Star.”
Murphy says Weicker, who died late last month, always put Connecticut first, despite his sometimes-controversial political stands.
Included in his legacy was an early reputation of doing what he saw as the right thing.
"I want to celebrate him for a moment with my colleagues because they don't make them like Lowell Weicker any longer,” says Murphy. “He led a life that was led by one simple axiom, do what is right."
Weicker’s funeral was held in Greenwich Monday. Weicker served as Greenwich first selectman and a state lawmaker in the 1960s. He briefly ran for president in 1980 before becoming the state’s only independent governor in 1990.
