The community celebrated the Milford 12U Little League Softball team on Monday before the team left for North Carolina.
Fans, parents and town officials came out to Brewster Major Field to send the team off.
Milford blew through the New England Regional, going 3-0 and run-ruling every team it faced, including an 11-1 win over Maine in the championship. It's the second year in a row this team has reached the world series, despite having 10 new players on this year's roster.
"For us, it's an absolute dream. For the town and community, a lot of the younger players here have watched teams have lots of success. The last two years, we've sent a number of teams to the world series, so it just shows what can be done with hard work," Milford coach Bryan Glynn said.
Milford is set to open up play against Italy this Sunday. There will be a watch party at Tribus Beer Co. in Milford at 4 p.m.
