A Shelton man is still fighting for his life after being hit by a car while driving his motorcycle, according to his family.
Cody Velasco, 21, was driving his motorcycle with his girlfriend Tori Charbonneau, 22, down Walnut Tree Road and Thompson Street Friday night when they were struck by a car.
Both were taken to Bridgeport Hospital with serious injuries. Family and friends told News 12 that the two underwent multiple surgeries. Velasco was also said to have had his right leg amputated.
Family members said Velasco is not showing brain activity.
"I'm lost. This is my son, my only son. I have a daughter and she's lost, too, that was her best friend. They were close, a year apart and we just miss Cody and love Cody," said his mother, Melissa Rodriguez.
Charbonneau has multiple broken bones and is recovering.
Loved ones gathered outside Bridgeport Hospital where both, Velasco and Charbonneau are being taken care of.
"I love him he's my best friend, he's always going to be my best friend." said Michael Luther, his best friend.
Others like Jonathan Rodriguez and Eli Martinez, who also call Velasco a best friend said, "The best friend you could ask for. I mean, there for when you need him." and "Just felt so surreal, I talked to him the day before and I was like, I can't wait to see you on Sunday and then everything happened. It's hard."
"Cody is the sweetest man you'll ever meet." describes his cousin, Will Torres.
Valasco's 22nd birthday is Tuesday.
The GoFundMe has raised almost $6,000 as of Monday morning.
