Rockefeller Center in New York City is getting one "big" gift from the town of Shelton.

The Christmas tree that will be a part of the annual holiday tradition was cut down Wednesday to start its journey to the Big Apple. The Norway spruce is not only about 75 years old, but it will also be the 75th tree to be lit up at Rockefeller Center.

The tree is owned by the Rivnyak family. The 8-ton tree is more than 80 feet tall, and is 48 feet in diameter. It took employees of a tree removal company more than four hours to chop it down while spectators watched. It was then hoisted onto a flatbed truck for the trip down I-95.

Once it arrives in the city, workers will put on more than 30,000 multicolored lights for the lighting ceremony.

The tree will be erected Friday, and the tree lighting ceremony takes place on Nov. 28.
