Shoppers hit some smaller stores Saturday for Small Business Saturday – a day that encourages everyone to stop by, think of and support locally run, small businesses.
News 12 Connecticut's Nina Kapur was in Fairfield, where she spoke with some businesses owners.
Capri, a women’s clothing store, is celebrating 20 years in downtown Fairfield.
"Fairfield has a great vibe right now and people are really thriving,” says manager Sharon Risley. “We just love to show people who we are and what we do."
Capri managers say they participate every year in Small Business Saturday, and always include a gift or discount to thank the community that supports them so strongly.
According to a study done by American Express, an average of 67 cents of every dollar spent at a small business stays in the local community.
State officials encourage shopping locally as well, saying that supporting local, independently-owned small businesses helps create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country.
