With the national average for a gallon of self-serve regular gas hovering at around $2.67, southwestern Connecticut residents are once again in search of a bargain.
At the Shell station on Main Avenue in Norwalk, the price for a gallon of regular was $2.69. At other stations along Main Street prices ranged from $2.74 to $2.81. According to the U.S. Energy Department, gas prices have jumped 16 percent in the past month. Some analysts believe the price of gas may hit $3, citing seasonal swings and petro-political concerns as the causes. Some drivers say they are changing their gas-guzzling ways while others say they will just take the hit.
Meantime, Governor Rell (R-CT) is doing her part to help by asking Congress to support suspending the 54 cents a gallon tariff on foreign ethanol.
